About Lyra Frett-Lettsome
God-fearing
Lyra Frett was a true Christian in every sense of the word. She was kind-hearted to her neighbors and those around her. She loved and prayed often for the well-being of her children and grandchildren and family members. She was full of wisdom and while around her, if you listened, you could get a nugget or two of foresight to help you along in your life’s journey. She was faithful in church attendance and involvement. She attended Bethel and The Mount of Olives Seventh-Day Adventist churches in Brooklyn, New York. If you spent any time around her, you would easily sense her love for the Lord.
Baker
Lyra Frett had a lot of talents, but the one gift that family members often speak of was her ability to cook and bake. There was always a good meal of some kind available at Lyra’s apartment. She cooked religiously on Friday evenings for Sabbath\Saturday consumption by any and everyone who may eat with us at Sabbath lunch. Lyra was also known for her breads and Caribbean-based tart pies which she baked and sold at least a few times a month. Her loaves of bread and rolls were sweet and succulent and could be consumed alone, with no other condiment or fixin. The tart pies she made were famous for the crust which was always firm and sweet. If you knew Lyra, you knew of her love for baking.
Seamstress
Lyra Frett, our mother and grandmother, was also a seamstress. She made clothes for her children and grandchildren to wear to school and church. She also made various clothing items for church members, friends and family. Her garments were made with caution and care and whoever had the privilege to wear a garment she made were proud to do so. She taught us that quality is more than technique; it’s care, intention, and the joy of creating something beautiful for others. Lyra Frett, a talented seamstress whose dedication to her craft set the foundation for everything we do. Known for her meticulous attention to detail and her ability to turn simple fabrics into timeless pieces, she built a foundation rooted in excellence and integrity.
